Cork is a material that is wholly ecological, renewable and biodegradable.
Cork’s texture is most similar to leather, but it is still unique due to its wood-like quality.
It is obtained from the bark of the cork oak tree, which mostly grows in the western Mediterranean, primarily Portugal.
Instead of cutting down the tree, the bark is stripped every 9 to 12 years, and the tree is left to regenerate. In the lifespan of a cork oak tree (170 to 250 years), you can trim the bark 16 times on average.
The process of stripping does not affect the health and lifespan of the tree. As a matter of fact, the tree would remove its own bark and regenerate it anyway. The cork stripping is assured by skilled labor and does not harm the tree in any way, being a vital process for the tree's reinvigoration
There is no wasted material in the entire process.
Products made from cork are durable as their lifetime is up to 30 years or longer if properly cared for. It is also stain resistant, lightweight, eco-friendly and easy to take care of.
Since cork is taken from nature, no two pieces are the same. And finally, it is simply cool to touch and warm to eyes.
